If you already know the size of the luff, leech and foot of the requested sail you wish,
you can proceed to that portion of the form. Gathering these measurements is a good way
to insure the sail conforms to your expectations.

Hoisted MeasurementsGenoa Measurements

With tape rule hoisted on the jib halyard, (all the way, please do not try to account for stretch, we will do that) measure:

A- To the feeder (if any)

B- To the bearing surface of tack fitting

C- To intersection of headstay and deck

D- To cabin house at mast

E- To hull to deck joint

F- Pass tape around shrouds as if it was the leech of the sail, then measure to the forward end of the track. Pull tight.

G- To the aft end of track

Deck Level Measurements

Headstay - Aft   Centerline - Out
H- To the fwd edge of track K- To the shroud base

Requested Leech Length .................
Requested Foot Length ..................

For Staysails it is required that you provide luff, leech and foot
measurements. For jibs less than 100 percent, it is a good idea to
provide the luff, leech and foot measurments as these sails tend to
have custom tack points on vessels.

It is always a good idea to take the time to come up a with a luff,
leech and foot measurement. By doing so, the sail is always what you
expect. If you don't supply leech and foot measurements our sail
design computer will select these measurements for you.

Type of sail (Genoa, Yankee, Staysail)..

Genoa's and Genoa sizes are often characterized by #1, #2 and #3. Jibs
are sails with LP lengths equal to and less than the vessel J
measurements. Genoas have LP's greater than the J measurement. When the
LP size approaches the J length, the terminology (Genoa or Jib) becomes
less clear. A number 3 Genoa is often a 100 jib. Genoas are also
chararcterized by the percent overlap of the J measurements, such as a
110, 135 or 150 Genoa. Please see http://www.fareastsails.com/float.htm
for a graphical representation.

Furler Luff Tape Size Chart (most common sizes);

Please check with your furler manufacturer and get the exact sailmaker luff
tape size and keep this information in your vessel records. We want numbers
like #5 luff tape or #6 luff tape. Do not guess or attempt to measure.
Check the documentation that came from your furler manufacturer.

Clew Height off deck .... ..............

(For clew heights, low = 20", medium 32" and High 48", the sail can be
designed for any height. If your sail tacks high off deck, it is a good
idea to check your leech measurement when the sail layouts are presented)
