Max Luff- Hoist a tape measure on your main halyard till its stops (to the sheave). Then measure straight down to top of boom and record this measurement. Please do not allow for stretch, we'll do that. Be sure the tape is attached to the sail halyard shackle in the same place that the sail is attached to the halyard. Don't forget that the sail shackle must be on the halyard when you measure.

Some vessels have a black band at the top of the mast. If your vessel has a black band, pull the top of the tape measure to the black band and record band next to your measurement. The band is used to insure the headboard and upper sail roach does not interfer with your backstay.

Some vessels also have a boom on a track that slides up and down. Please measure with the boom in its high normal sailing position. This will allow for adjustment with various sail conditions and points of sail.

Leech- *If you need to clear a bimini or boom gallows, with the halyard at max hoist and the boom set at a height that clears bimini or gallows and the outhaul mechaninism in the max aft setting, measure to the top of the boom at the outhaul. Remember that the the tape measure must be attached to the sail shackle not the halyard eyelet.

Max Foot- Mainsail max. foot length is measured from the aft face of the mast to the tightest/ longest outhaul setting. If the boom has a black measurement band, measure to the inside of the band and record "band".

Backstay- Aft face of mast to backstay. Horizontal measurement at boom level. This measurement helps us design the optimal roach for your sail.

For Square Rigged Sails Only;

  Diagonal Measurments Clew to Throat.

  Diagonal Measurment Tack to Head.

For All Sails;

A - Aft face of mast to bearing point of tack fitting
B - Top of boom to bearing point of tack fitting.
C - Aft face of mast to bearing point of reef hook.
D - Aft face of mast to end of groove or track.
E - Bottom of the luff groove or track to top of boom
F - From back of the mast to reefing block or padeye.

Outhaul Car? Yes No

X- If outhaul car: From bearing point of the pin on outhaul car to the top of the boom.
Y- If outhaul car on separate track: Place car in farthest aft position and measure forward to aft end of sail track/ groove

Number of Reef Points...................
Height of Reef Points above Boom........
Foot Reefing Grommets (bolt rope foots).

Enter "Sailmaker" if you wish us to locate the reef points using our
computer model and your F Measurements. If you have cheek blocks on
the boom for reef points, we suggest you measure the reef height and
confirm how the reef points align with those cheek blocks and then
give us the height for each requested reef.If you order slab reefing
we only supply a leech reef grommet and a tack reef grommet. We do
not supply intermediate diamond grommets if you specify slab
reefing. On normal reefing we supply tie down grommets between the
leech and tack reefing grommets.

If you have a bolt rope foot and your reefing lines start at the
boom, then go through a sail grommet and than back to the boom, you
will need grommets at the foot directly above where you tie the
reefing line around the boom. So, if you reef that way, enter YES
for foot reefing grommets.

We are asking you to suggest a luff and foot measurement based on
your observations. We use this to compare your observations to your
measurements. Generally, a vessel with a 40 foot maximum hoist,
might be considering a sail with a luff of 39 feet. Please remember
that the sail headboard has a width of 8 inches or so. Some
mastheads offset the backstay about that distance from the mast top.
Others, particularly wooden spars, bring the backstay directly to
the mast top with very little aft offset. Vessels without an aft
backstay offset need to be careful not to have too long of a luff.
Manufactures often put a black band on the mast to signify the
recommended maximum luff height when backstay interference becomes
an issue.

Requested Luff Length...................
Requested Foot Length...................
Reduce above requests for stretch.......

Your sails will stretch over their life. Our computer design
software has very accurate adjustments it will make for stretch. If
you tell us "Do Not Adjust" your requested luff and foot lengths, we
will make the sail with your exact requested luff and foot lengths.
If you wish us to reduce your above requested luff and foot lengths,
please tell us to "reduce for stretch" above.

We suggest that you attach a copy of the logo you wish. Often older
vessels have several different logos that have been used. To save a
copy of a logo found on the internet, right mouse click the image and
"save image as" and place the image somewhere. Then, attach the
image to an email to us. We are collecting logos at;

Full Batten Mainsail Details:

Specify if you want any of the battens full, such as a 2+2 or a
tapered batten. We do not supply long battens as we cannot ship
these battens without breakage. We do supply standard battens.
We do not supply bat cars or batten tensioners as they are part
of your full batten mainsail system fitted to your vessel.

Standard configuration for a full batten main has the luff end
of the batten pocket open. Sailors attach their batten tensioner
at the luff end. The batten tensioner has its own mechanism for
attachment to the mast. A grommet is NOT provided at the luff
end of the batten pocket. Please see the below URL for more info.

If you want something else, please clarify your needs.

Optional Full Length Battens ...........
Slider grommets between bat cars?.......

Specify if you want any sliders between the bat cars (tensioners)
on full batten mainsails. Sliders are not required on many bat
car systems. However, some systems that use the existing sail
track for batcars may allow this option. Most full batten mainsail
luffs are made with double luff tape and no luff cord. If you want
a luff cord, please specify above as "no luff cord" or "luff cord
required" and "grommets" or "no grommets".

Full Batten Velcro Leech End Adjusters
Full Batten Luff End Adjustment .......

Specify above where your full battens will be adjusted.

Full batten mainsails require that the sail battens be adjusted
for proper batten tension. This can be accomplished at the luff
end of the sail or the leech end. Leech end adjustment is
generally for smaller vessels, less than 30 feet and it uses
velcro to snug the batten to proper tension. Larger vessels use
luff end batten cars or batten boxes to adjust the tension.

Comments or Notes

If you have had any special notes on emails concerning the
construction of your sail during the quotation process, please be
sure those special details are described above.
